Marriage Letters: Patience

Join me and my wife, Audrey along with Amber @ The Run a Muck, as we write our marriage letters to shine light on the joy and truth of marriage, along with the struggles.  Marriage is worth fighting for.

Audge,

I feel horrible today and I feel a bit inadequate to even write this letter.  This is one of my weak spots on so many levels.  Primarily on the point that I want to fix every issue that comes up in our lives and relationship instead of just "being there" for you and showing patience in times of uncertainty.  I think I feel like a failure when I'm not able to fix whatever problem or issue arises.  The problem is you can't build a tower of cards in 30 seconds or you topple the whole thing.  I need to slow down in life and particularly in our relationship and show patience in our conversations.

What's really convicting is that you do this much better than me.  When you are upset you are willing to take time and cool down and then revisit the issues.  When I go off on my tangents and life seems somewhat uncertain you don't complain, but walk steadfast beside me.  When I struggle feeling like maybe I've made wrong decision in life and ministry you stand right beside me and are patient as I come to my senses.  You never seem to expect me to change in an instant.  You seem to realize that I'm not all I'm going to be and you love the me now and are patiently anticipating the me I am to become.  I hope I'm better than I was and that I'll grow even more.  Your patience and faithfulness to stand beside me is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.  I love it.  And I'm sorry that many times I take it for granted.

This weekend was busy and rough.  My impatience was a factor in that and I'm sorry.

Love you,

  1. sounds like you have a sweet relationship. and you have eyes that are willing to see--which is a great gift men can give their wives.
this growing of a union is. . . a continual progress in work.

  2. love your tower of cards example, so true! We will never really get there all the way...any of us. It is in the trying to become better for one another, to come along side to support that makes the difference. :)

    1. Your so right Tara. Supporting is so much better than always trying to fix. I've gotta do that better.

  3. Good grief. You've got me all mushy, wanting to hug Seth.

This thing is hard, and I declare there are GOOD GOOD MEN out there doing the slow quiet work that makes the world tolerable.

    God bless your marriage.

    1. So glad you started this. It just adds strength knowing that there are other couples making it work out there and that perfection is not a prerequisite to a successful marriage.

God bless you. And give Seth a hug already.
