Marriage Letters on Monday: Love Story

Me and Audrey are joining in on a thing some bloggers are doing called Marriage Letter Mondays.  This is in a hopes to shed transparency on marriages and encourage others in their own marital experiences.

Sometimes I'm afraid our story doesn't look very much like a traditional love story and I think I'm okay with that.  It has had many twist and turns through out the 13 years we have been together.  But honestly, It has been so much better than I could have hoped for.  I had expectations about marriage.  That I would marry one woman and be with her forever.  That I would have a family.  That we would serve God together.  That we would have fun.  All of these have happened.  Though what I so love about our story is the things I didn't expect.  That I would have a wife who gets my sense of humor and makes me laugh all the time.  That I worry about finances and you call me out on it.  That we would have dance parties with two amazing little girls.  That we would explore the country together.  That we wage wars over the temperature in the house.  That life would be so busy that we struggle to find time for dreaming, but when we do we seem to be able to make dreams realities.  That you say things and I still struggle to find the right response.  That you would knit before you were thirty.  That missions would be our life.  That we are not rich, but we are amazing survivors together. That someone could know me so well and stll love me so much.  That we hold hands.

To be honest, I can't wait to see where our life together goes.  Being married to you is amazing, even when it's difficult.  It makes me a better man and person.  You help me see more in life that I know is even there.  As we were hiking last Saturday and stopped to see the amazing view over the valley, I was reminded that the view is always better with you beside me.  In fact, I could not imagine what it looks like without you.

Why we put December in a low income school.

I want to start by saying, in no way is what we have chosen the best or only way out there.   We just feel it's our way this season. But here is why we chose this path:  When we moved to Oregon we knew our oldest would be going into school.  The great thing is that there are many options for school here.  Private Christian Schools, homeschooling, and the county even let's you enter lotteries for any of the many public elementary schools around.  So when the day came, Audrey and I had much to talk about. We really felt that God had led our family to try our best to make big decisions as missionaries walking in faith.  This led us to believe that the school that was literally just around the corner from our house was a prime mission field.  The coolest part is that Decmeber got to be the lead missionary here.  She would dictate relationships and she would be at the center of decisions of our family involvement.  This has been so beautiful to watch. 17 Challenge Update

So here is where we are at.  In less than 24 hours around 70 people joined in together and raised over $1700 to help bring sight to the blind.  The blind in this case is my friend at the Eugene Mission, Richard.  This afternoon I broke the news to him about how many of you had joined in to help him see again.  He broke down crying in disbelief.  Then we prayed and gave God glory for providing when it was thought impossible. A couple of months ago Richard had began seeing doctors to see what had happened with his eyes.  He found out that he had cataracts growing over his eyes, but it was fixable.  The problem is that any charity funded agencies were only going to help with medical, not optical issues.  The surgical assistant told Richard he would need $1700 to get the procedure.  We talked to the lions club, but depleted funds left them with no way to help.  We gave up.  Then the scripture convicted me and led to the 17 challenge that happened yesterday.  God did amazing things.   Che
