The Beautiful Mess

So here we are.  14 months into this journey with Jesus in Eugene Oregon and we are looking at a church plant (of sorts) starting up.  (So I know your asking "Why the of sorts?")  Because we are going to be more a missional outpost than church in the beginning.  We believe that if we can go in to the most unreached area of Eugene and show Jesus's love radically and relentlessly then he will be glorified.  Through that then a church just might be birthed.  If so we will continue to love, teach, serve, and worship with the people journeying with Jesus.

The rundown is as follows.  We are meeting on Sunday evenings from 5 to 7 for the next few months with just the ministry team that is committing to The Beautiful Mess.  We will pray and begin to dream together about how we can be on mission this summer in and around the Whitaker Neighborhood and west downtown.  We will also take care of logistic needs, such as website, artwork for fliers, and prepping the basement area we will be renting.  Then we make Sundays all about showing the love of Christ to the culture around us.  Some Sundays there may be worship and teaching, but more often than not church looks like something outside of the walls of a building.  We may buy groceries and hand them out, rent out movie theaters, barbeques in the park, and hanging with the roller derby teams.  The sky is the limit.  But everything we will do with the intention of letting people know how much Jesus and we love them.

Needless to say, I'm excited.

The mission of the Beautiful Mess is to be an urban outpost that radically loves the people in and around the Whiteaker Neighborhood. We will be trusting God to draw people to himself and join with them in their journey with Jesus.

The Method would be to organize ministry partners to lead a variety of creative alternative approaches to impact this culture. We hope you would consider a being a partner with us in this mission.

Our Commitment:

o       We will commit ourselves to sound Biblical beliefs and always point everything we do toward Jesus knowing that he is the way, the truth, and the life.
o       We will be heavy on grace.  Come as you are be as you are.  We will love people and trust God’s love to shape them.
o       We will be honest and transparent, even and especially in our weakness.
o       We will be accountable to the Advisory team.
o       We will be humble.  It is all for God’s glory.
o       We will be team led.
o       We will give away more than we keep.  Other than the rent of the facility ($300 a month) and promotional cost.  We will spent the rest of the money given on loving the community around us.  As the Beautiful Mess grows the Advisory Team will make financial recommendations and decisions.
o       We will celebrate the love of Christ being shown more than we celebrate organizational growth.

This is who we are.  Let me know what you think.  Thanks to everyone who is making this possible.  Thanks for hearing God's call and joining and supporting in The Beautiful Mess.

God Bless,
