Marriage Letters: Outside Influences

Join me and my wife, Audrey along with Amber @ The Run a Muck , as we write our marriage letters to shine light on the joy and truth of marriage, along with the struggles.  Marriage is worth fighting for. Audrey, I hate that there are outside influences that affect us.  I hate more the fact that I let them.  When bills pile up, no matter how much you try to balance me, I get off kilter.  I try to figure out how to fix everything, while the whole time you are reminding me to just trust God and enjoy the day.  You are so grounded.  In many ways you anchor our lives through all the craziness I seem to drag us through. After money it feels like everything else just falls under business.  This meeting and then that meeting and then so and so needs some help.  I want to do a better job of just relaxing with you. You know what I love.  That we got a small table for our backyard with two chairs.  I've enjoyed the recent t...

Marriage Letters: I knew you loved me when...

Join me and my wife, Audrey along with Amber @ The Run a Muck , as we write our marriage letters to shine light on the joy and truth of marriage, along with the struggles.  Marriage is worth fighting for. Audge, I knew you loved me when we found a rock that was perfect in Mentone.  When our hands met in the forest and beauty of nature was eclipsed by the beauty of that moment. I know you love me when the couch becomes our new perfect place, or the bench, or the car, anywhere where we can be close enough to understand each other without words. I knew you loved me when you charged in beside me.  Into whatever battle, mission, or story that God is orchestrating for us.  You hold on and move forward.  For longer stretches than I thought possible. I knew you loved me when we dreamed together.  All our stories have main characters that do not change. I know you love me when you do the small things that make me smile.  Garbage cans moved,...

Marriage Letters: My job-Your job

Join me and my wife, Audrey along with Amber @ The Run a Muck , as we write our marriage letters to shine light on the joy and truth of marriage, along with the struggles.  Marriage is worth fighting for. Audge, If I'm honest, sometimes I'm jealous for your job.  Especially on days when my office is flooded with the homeless who are struggling to find easy answers to very hard questions.  Like how do I deal with cancer and be homeless, or why can't I get over my families death, or how do I get meds for my psychosis.  I feel like I'm trying to patch up holes in the titanic with band-aids.  Add on to that the development of a discipleship program for the complex, staff meetings, team management, and social activities planning and I feel like many days I'm swimming in stormy water.  Keeping my head above water and breathing comes off as success.  Then there is the church planting aspect of everything.  I feel the weight of decisions bein...

Marriage Letters: Patience

Join me and my wife, Audrey along with Amber @ The Run a Muck , as we write our marriage letters to shine light on the joy and truth of marriage, along with the struggles.  Marriage is worth fighting for. Audge, I feel horrible today and I feel a bit inadequate to even write this letter.  This is one of my weak spots on so many levels.  Primarily on the point that I want to fix every issue that comes up in our lives and relationship instead of just "being there" for you and showing patience in times of uncertainty.  I think I feel like a failure when I'm not able to fix whatever problem or issue arises.  The problem is you can't build a tower of cards in 30 seconds or you topple the whole thing.  I need to slow down in life and particularly in our relationship and show patience in our conversations. What's really convicting is that you do this much better than me.  When you are upset you are willing to take time and cool down and then r...

Marriage Letters on Monday: Love Story

Image
Me and Audrey are joining in on a thing some bloggers are doing called Marriage Letter Mondays.  This is in a hopes to shed transparency on marriages and encourage others in their own marital experiences. Audge, Sometimes I'm afraid our story doesn't look very much like a traditional love story and I think I'm okay with that.  It has had many twist and turns through out the 13 years we have been together.  But honestly, It has been so much better than I could have hoped for.  I had expectations about marriage.  That I would marry one woman and be with her forever.  That I would have a family.  That we would serve God together.  That we would have fun.  All of these have happened.  Though what I so love about our story is the things I didn't expect.  That I would have a wife who gets my sense of humor and makes me laugh all the time.  That I worry about finances and you call me out on it.  That we would have dance pa...
